Yes! We are glad you asked. It's really easy. First, they need to download the app, if they haven't already. Next you open the recipe you want to share, click the paper aeroplane icon and generate the code. In their app, in the recipes section, they can click the + icon and enter your code into the 'Enter a Shared Recipe Code' box, and just like magic it will appear on their phone. The codes are designed to be simple to share, 3 digits, food related word, 3 digits. Delicious recipes are made for sharing aren't they?
Lazy Larder benefits massively from the hundreds of websites that share great recipes. LL doesn’t have any ambition to replace those websites. Rather, we want to help you find an easier way to store your favourite recipes, and build and maintain your weekly shopping list. There are plenty of ways within LL to add the steps from recipes you want to adapt, keep on hand, or create from scratch.
You are definitely not lazy. Anyone taking a step like this to plan ahead for themselves or their household clearly has their stuff together. The hope is that Lazy Larder will make planning your weekly meals and building your shopping list so much easier that your larder will become lazy – but you won’t! Also… who doesn’t love a bit of alliteration?
Great question. Lazy larder was created, and is maintained by a husband and wife duo, Ross and Amanda. They built it to help solve their own meal planning and shopping list problems, and as they both have iPhones, iOS offered the perfect platform for sharing. We’re looking into the option of building an Android version, but to be very honest, as we always are, we want to get the iOS version right first.
It’s worth taking a look at our other FAQ about Android phones, but to build on that here, Android and Apple phones don’t get on. They’re terrible at sharing with each other. For now, we’re putting our energy and attention into ensuring the iOS app is as good as it can be, but we would really love everyone to be able to access and share Lazy Larder with everyone in their household, regardless of what phone or tablet they have. We’ll keep working on it!
Yes it does! Here’s a fun story: Ross and Amanda own an aging iPad (circa 2018), so they built Lazy Larder to work on its older software. Whilst we can’t guarantee that Apple won’t make changes which will mean Lazy Larder no longer works for our antique device (!), It means the app should work happily for newer iPads. The iPad you add Lazy Larder to will function in the same way as an iPhone, so if you’re part of a household of two or more people, you’ll get the same shared perspective. Pretty neat, eh? One final (sad) detail here: there’s a sensor on iPhones that don’t exist on iPads, so the cook mode doesn’t recognise the fun hands-free wax-on wax-off karate moves for advancing your recipes. We really wish it did!
Yes. Without being logged in, you’ll miss out on all the really powerful features of Lazy Larder. We chose iCloud for a couple of reasons: excellent privacy for you, and great sharing across devices. You’ll notice we didn’t ask for an email address or password to sign in. Apple keeps your identity hidden in the back end of Lazy Larder, because it all goes through iCloud. As for sharing, it means that you can see everything your fellow householder(s) can see, if you’ve shared your account. One little iCloud login means that you can pick recipes, and have a shared shopping list that updates anytime any of you makes a change. Not bad, in our humble opinion!
